What's New...
Hi everyone! Hope you are all enjoying the summer weather since the monsoons left!... Tina, Tammy, Amy, and Dr. MacKnight all took family vacations in Florida in May-It was a nice break from our rainy weather up here. ZOOM! UPDATE: We are having amazing results with our new ZOOM! whitening system. Our patients are thrilled with whiter teeth. We have experienced 8-14 shades brighter in one session. It's quick, easy, and convenient. Most dental offices charge $500- $600 for ZOOM! but we are now offering it for only $385. We also offer an optional set of follow up whitening trays for home use for future quick touch ups at our lab cost! So it is a very affordable and popular way to whiten your smile! Call and ask us about it. Congratulations to Diane's son, Michael who graduated from flight school in the US Air Force. He ranked first in his class and received three major awards including the Air Force's "Top Gun" award for low level formation flight. Speaking of flying, Dr. MacKnight's staff surprised the doctor with a gift certificate for flying lessons on his birthday. He is excited about learning to fly and is taking lessons at Sporty's at the Clermont County Airport. Look up in the sky and wave!.

PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN WITH "TOOTHPRINTS" !

The New Dental ID System, Like Fingerprints.

One of the greatest fears parents have today is that their child will get lost or kidnapped. This is such a growing concern that to date, thirty-four states have implemented the AMBER Alert program that issues state-wide public alerts about missing or abducted children through the state highway system and police agencies. America's Most Wanted host, John Walsh, experienced this tragedy firsthand when his son Adam was abducted and murdered. Adam was identified through forensic dental records. The forensic pediatric dentist who identified the body was Dr. Dave Tesini of Milton, Massachusetts. He has developed a unique, cost effective method of preserving a child's bite record which can play a pivotal role in providing a means of identifying children through their unique tooth arrangement, as well as providing a saliva sample for possible future DNA analysis. In addition, the bite record retains the child's scent for use with police tracking dogs during a search. The product is called Toothprints.

Too Much Water Can Be Bad!

Seems like everyone is drinking bottled water, which can be very good for your health. But like everything, too much of a good thing can be bad. New research shows that drinking more than 32 ounces of water at one time can cause permanent eye damage. Apparently, drinking too much water at one sitting can cause the intraocular pressure in the eyes to rise dangerously. This can lead to ocular hypertension and glaucoma. Other beverages like coffee, tea, and soft drinks can be worse since caffeine keeps the pressure elevated longer. It is important to keep hydrated, but never drink more than 16 ounces at one time.

We now provide this new valuable service for our patients. The procedure is easy and very affordable. The child simply bites into a warmed thermoplastic wafer in our office. The wafer is then sealed in an air tight container, which you take home for safekeeping. The Toothprint records a child's bite which is unique to every child much like a fingerprint. Although many times fingerprints are not retrievable due to the deterioration of the body, teeth are almost indestructible even in burn cases. Updates are recommended due to the child's growth and changing dentition. The recommended update schedule is: initial impression at age 3, update at age 7 or 8, and update at age 12 or 13 after all permanent teeth are in. The fee for Toothprints is only $12, which makes it very affordable for the entire family-children, as well as adults. Toothprints will help give parents some piece of mind in protecting their loved ones. Hopefully they will never need to use it. Call us and ask about Toothprints today!

THE DENTAL BENEFITS OF GREEN TEA

In many Asian countries, people drink green tea in similar quantities that we consume coffee in America. They have described health benefits of the beverage for centuries. But recently, western science has confirmed with documented research that green tea can kill oral cancer cells. Green tea contains loads of a powerful antioxidant and polyphenols that destroy existing oral cancer cells and significantly slow the growth of new tumor cells without harming normal cells. The antioxidants are 100 times more powerful than those found in Vitamin C! Over 30,000 people are diagnosed every year with oral cancer and over 8,000 die each year. That is why it is so important to get regular dental checkups, during which we perform a free oral cancer screening. So drink up!!
