What's New...
Hello again!.Well, nice weather is finally here-enjoy! Don't forget to call us for your "spring cleaning". Congratulations to one of our dental hygienists, Gina, who had a baby girl, Rylee Elizabeth , weighing in at 7 lbs, 6 oz!! Welcome back to work, Gina. We also have a new Central Sterilization Assistant, Iantha. She has a lot of previous experience in that area and has a great personality! . Our office has a lot of exciting new services to offer as a result of Dr. MacKnight's recent trip to the Chicago Midwinter Dental meeting. We have three new teeth whitening services (see article below), a new missing child I.D. kit called "Toothprints" to safeguard your loved ones in the event of a tragedy, and a revolutionary micro-laser device that helps diagnose certain types of hidden decay when the cavity is small and requires less treatment to restore (Diagnodent). The latter two procedures will be discussed in the next newsletter, but feel free to call us for details at your convenience.
Three New Teeth Whitening Systems!! We are pleased to announce we now have three new choices to whiten your teeth to the whitest color they can be, and give you a dazzling smile!
1) Announcing: ZOOM! Zoom! whitening is the most convenient and ideal way to make your smile its whitest and brightest. Developed by Discus Dental after years of dental research, Zoom is a pH balanced hydrogen peroxide gel formulation that we apply to your teeth in the office. The lightening gel is then activated by a specially designed intense light that is focused on your teeth. The activated gel penetrates the tooth enamel, removing years of deep stains and discoloration. The procedure is safe, effective, quick and easy. It takes only one hour in our office and includes a fluoride treatment and a free take-home touch up kit.
2) BRAVO! This new, improved hydrogen peroxide formulation of home bleaching is quicker and more effective than products that were previously available. With this procedure, you whiten your teeth at home with custom fitting flexible tooth trays that hold the whitening gel in close contact with your tooth enamel. We are getting great results in 1- 2 weeks and the best part is it only takes 30 minutes per day, instead of the previous 2 hours or overnight treatment. We are excited about Bravo! 3) CREST WHITE STRIPS--PROFESSIONAL STRENGTH We now have professional strength Crest White Strips, which are 42% stronger than the over the counter product in stores. Our kits have 100 strips versus 40 strips in the store kits, and ours costs less ($34 after the $15 mail in rebate). Store kits are $35 to $45. We also include a free Crest Spin brush and a tube of Crest toothpaste!
Our patients often ask us, "what is the difference in the whitening procedures?" Zoom is the quickest, most effective, and most convenient way to whiten your teeth for maximum results in one hour. Bravo can provide similar results but it takes longer (1-2 weeks). Bravo is also less expensive than Zoom. Crest White Strips can whiten your teeth but the results are not as effective as Zoom or Bravo. Yet, the strips are an inexpensive way to brighten up your smile. Whitening toothpastes, on the other hand, do not actually whiten your teeth. They contain an abrasive to clean off the plaque and superficial stain, but do not penetrate the enamel. Please feel free to ask us about our new whitening program and fees.
Too Much Water Can Be Bad!
Seems like everyone is drinking bottled water, which can be very good for your health. But like everything, too much of a good thing can be bad. New research shows that drinking more than 32 ounces of water at one time can cause permanent eye damage. Apparently, drinking too much water at one sitting can cause the intraocular pressure in the eyes to rise dangerously. This can lead to ocular hypertension and glaucoma. Other beverages like coffee, tea, and soft drinks can be worse since caffeine keeps the pressure elevated longer. It is important to keep hydrated, but never drink more than 16 ounces at one time.
